Myths and Misconceptions about Stress : Conscious Collaboration.

equator journal

Stress is not a product of what you are doing,

But rather a response to what you are not doing.

If you ever find yourself in stress, this is a simple practice that will radically help you for the better.

Stress is a product of the silence that you are not creating space to be within.

It’s no wonder that much of contemporary culture is in firm opposition to allowing space for silence.

Stress is the biggest limitation to our freedom.

We believe that stress is due to the various “stressful” tasks that we have taken on, or rather have been placed upon us.

Indeed, this is a component that creates the conditions for stress to dwell, but it is not the cause of stress itself.

We are usually one layer detached from the real heart of a matter.

When we fill up time and space physically, emotionally, and energetically what we are really participating in is the re-sculpting of our inner landscape’s operating system and its natural balance.

However, in most cases we rebalance our operating system to be akin to riding a bicycle in a constant imbalanced lean.

Can you imagine the focus and energy it takes to ride a leaning bicycle like that continually each and every day?

Not to mention the added of stress of wondering when this thing is going to crash.

We put an immense amount of pressure on ourselves to not crash, so to speak.

The fear or worry of crashing is a self-perpetuated fear, and it is unconsciously reinforced throughout much of culture.

But what we focus on, we ultimately create.

There are always alternatives to our default operating systems.

Conditioning + creation is non-linear.

Life doesn’t need to be a collection of “stressful” events, but rather that we have more power than we believe to return to more regulated blueprints.

Stress serves a function.

There is a reason we have a biological response to stress known as cortisol.

Cortisol is one hell of a drug,

and people have done extraordinary things on it…

In the right context.

In the words of Peter Crone, “You don’t have to worry about going outside and being eaten by tigers,”

But we do encounter fight or flight moments in which stress is the fire under your arse to innovate and stay alive, metaphorically and also literally.

The stress response beckons our collaboration.

To tie the bow on this idea once again,

We do not suffer from stress because we do stressful things,

We stress because we are not allowing space and time for silence.

The space from which we carve out time and space to do is the space of silence.

The space of silence is the inner landscape upon which we build the structures of our doings.

We cannot do without building upon the space of being.

Being precedes doing, in our highest expressions.

Your fundamental state of being and the space you allow it is your foundation of life.

People who figure this out are also masters of reality creation.

(I have courses and mentorships on this that you can inquire upon below)

The nature of our modern culture is such that we naturally desire to take up space, to fill space quickly, to avoid silence, and to be consumed by a state of doing.

Doing is amazing, but the foundation is built upon your relationship with silence, stillness, and solitude whether you know it or not.

We all deserve to eradicate the shaky foundations upon which we create.

I call this architectural energetics.

It is your birthright to have:

a regulated nervous system

a balanced inner landscape

a healthy relationship with silence

and expansive experiences of solitude.

These are architectural energetics that can be designed to optimize YOU!

“In the Celtic World there was always the recognition of the silent and the unknown as the closest companions of the human journey.”

-        John O’ Donohue.

How much space are you allowing for your closest companion to aid you on your journey?

Stress occurs when we don’t allow enough space or give ourselves permission to be in silence and solitude.

 Solitude must include silence.

And silence is spaciousness.

We as humans are designed to thrive within spaciousness of the soul.

Our quest has been diverted away from spaciousness into the threshold of space-lessness.

So here is your simple practice to begin to collaborate with stress and dissolve its constraints on our lives.

Stress is the  indicator prompting you to create space.

Consider this:

Instead of attempting to respond directly to the stress,

Use the stress as a reflection to become aware of the space that you are not giving your mind, body, and soul.

If you are being chased by a tiger, please ignore this practice.

I fully understand that there are very firm survival reasons for stress.

Money,

Health,

Providing for others,

Purposelessness,

these are all valid reason to feel the constraint of stress biologically and beyond.

But it is possible to break the cycle.

Stress will kill you far sooner than most other things in this life.

So let’s take the collaboration, integration, and transcendence of stress seriously as a means to create healthier human eco-systems.

When stress arises, apply space.

Remember,

Space is the innate origin upon which we live.

We do not add space, we subtract to arrive at space.

Subtraction from stress looks like:

Focusing on silence rather than stimulus.

Finding the core home within yourself that nurtures you.

Identifying with thoughts that invite spaciousness inside.

These awareness practices around Stress, silence, and solitude are as fundamental as they are esoteric.

One cannot be removed from the other because the bleed into each other, and are, in fact, manifestations of the same underlying principle to varying degrees or relationship to life.

Stress is very much hard-wired into our subconscious mind,

But it is more than possible to collaborate with stress in order to clear more space for silence to thrive once again.

Beneath the stress, silence is there.

Reveal more of the masterpiece beneath, created more of a masterpiece of life
